Mid-Race Battery Issue Sours Strong Day for Poole

February 22, 2016

By Chip Ganassi Racing

The NASCAR XFINITY Series kicked off the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon at the newly remodeled Daytona International Speedway (DIS). 2016 XFINITY Series Sunoco Rookie of Year Contender Brennan Poole wheeled the new No. 48 DC Solar Chevy Camaro for the 120-lap race. It marked the first time since 2008 that Chip Ganassi Racing fielded entries in the XFINITY Series. Poole started 13th and worked with veteran XFINITY Series crew chief Chad Norris for the first time on Saturday.

Following an early caution period, Poole began working his way towards the front. The young driver received slight right rear fender damage after being spun on the lap 13 accident that involved seven cars.

After going back to green, Poole drove quickly into the top-five where he spent the majority of the day. With less than 40 laps to go, Poole reported battery issues and was forced to make an unscheduled stop to replace it, losing three laps in the process. Once returning to the track, Poole brought the car home in 27th place.

Brennan Poole – No. 48 DC Solar Chevrolet Camaro “We had an awesome DC Solar Chevy. We were able to race to the front pretty quickly and run in the top-five. Unfortunately bad luck bit us with the battery issue. Big thanks to (Crew Chief) Chad (Norris) and the guys for changing the battery as fast as possible. I am really encouraged by the way the team performed this weekend and look forward to next week’s race in Atlanta.”
