Optimistic Poole heading to Phoenix

By Chip Ganassi Racing
The NASCAR XFINITY Series began the three-race west coast swing at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) on Saturday afternoon. Sunoco Rookie of the Year Contender Brennan Poole wheeled the No. 48 DC Solar Chevy for the 200-lap race to an 11th-place result. The race at LVMS marked the one-year anniversary of his first XFINITY Series start.
Poole started 11th for the 300-mile race and at the drop of the green flag radioed to his crew the handling of his DC Solar Chevy was way too tight. Throughout the first half of the race, Poole worked closely with crew chief Chad Norris to get the No. 48 car to his liking. The pace set by eventual race winner Kyle Busch put Poole a lap down early in the event. Utilizing the waive-around, Poole managed to get back on lead lap and contend for a top-10 finish.
The final 50 laps of the event saw Poole try and protect his top-10 finish. Unfortunately, he came up just short on fuel and came home with an 11th-place finish. This marked Poole’s second top-15 of the 2016 season.
NOTES OF INTEREST:
- This was Poole’s second XFINITY Series starts at LVMS
- This was Poole’s second top-15 finish of the 2016 season
- The race was slowed by three cautions for 15 laps, including one red flag totaling 19 minutes
Brennan Poole, No. 48 DC Solar Chevrolet Camaro – “We had a pretty good DC Solar Chevy. At the start of the race I was way too tight and we freed the car up which helped. I was able to take a waive-around, getting back on the lead lap and contend for a top-10 finish. Unfortunately, we came up about a half a lap short on fuel and finished 11th. A big thank you to my guys for continuing to make the car better throughout the race. I am looking forward to racing in Phoenix next week.”
Results (with starting position) from the Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS)
P1 (1) Kyle Busch, No. 18 Toyota
P11 (11) Brennan Poole, No. 48 DC Solar Chevrolet Camaro
