DC Solar Freedom Kicks Off Groundbreaking Campaign To Bring Solar To Colleges Across The Country
This week, Mills College in Oakland, CA became the first of hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide to receive a fleet of mobile solar products under a groundbreaking initiative by DC Solar Freedom (DCSF): The National Collegiate Placement Program. In partnership with DC Solar Distribution, DCSF’s ground breaking program facilitates the placement of mobile solar products into college and university communities throughout the U.S, at no cost.
This Monday, Mills kicked off the historic initiative at a solar-powered launch ceremony where the college took delivery of a dozen solar units, including light towers to increase safety and security on campus, electric vehicle charging stations for electric cars, bikes and campus support vehicles, and DC Solar’s newest product, the Solar Station – an outdoor work space that comes fully equipped to charge personal devices, including phones, tablets and laptops. In addition to offering convenience for everyday use, DC Solar’s mobile products will also serve as a critical back-up power source for emergency response purposes on campus.
Monday’s launch ceremony was an opportunity for DC Solar and DC Solar Freedom to recognize the leadership role Mills has taken in the area of sustainability, and to celebrate a new era of renewable energy on campuses across the country. Speakers on hand included Mills College Vice President for Finance and Administration, Maria Cammarata, Nicole Gaetjens (Sustainability Coordinator), Rachel Patterson (ASMC President), and DC Solar Freedom’s VP and Global Sustainability Director, Eric Sirotkin.
A special written message from California’s Congresswoman from the 13th District, Barbara Lee, congratulated DC Solar Freedom and Mills (Lee’s Alma Mater) for taking an important first step in making our universities leaders in combatting climate change and champions of sustainability. DC Solar Distribution and DC Solar Freedom are proud of the endeavor we have undertaken to bring mobile solar power to universities everywhere, and we are excited about bringing you more news in the coming months as our expansion efforts continue. Our mission to change the way people use and think about solar energy has only just begun.
