UCLA Puts Sustainability Center Stage With Ecochella
With Coachella 2016 in the history books, some of us are still looking for more of that eclectic, innovative spirit makes today’s music events so memorable. Fortunately, at UCLA — a trend-setting university is nearly every conceivable way — they have found a way to keep the spirit of Coachella alive with their own student-created, Ecochella. Held this past weekend, Ecochella is UCLA’s annual outdoor concert featuring student and local bands, and it is powered 100% by bicycles. Its mission is to educate and inspire UCLA students about unconventional uses of renewable energy, all while showcasing the link between sustainability, health and music.
DC Solar was proud to be back for its second year at Echochella to light up the stage with our mobile light towers. Highlights from this year’s event included a special tribute to Prince by Walla, free yoga classes, bathing suits made out of recycled plastic (look out Project Runway!) and, of course, many enthusiastic bikers.
John Miranda, DC Solar’s Director of Communications: “So much of what makes Echochella such an exciting event is seeing how the students mix creativity with sustainability. The spirit of innovation is on full display here. If you ever wonder why more students apply to UCLA than any other U.S. college or university, come to this event and you’ll understand the draw.”
