DC Solar Joins Relay for Life of Oakley in the Race Against Cancer
Giving back to our local communities is a core value at DC Solar, and this year we were proud to continue that tradition by supporting The American Cancer Society’s, Relay for Life, Oakley. Relay for Life is the ACA’s annual fundraising walk/run held in communities throughout the globe to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember the loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. During the event, teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
The Oakley event was held this past Saturday and Sunday Freedom High School in Oakley, and DC Solar was there to support the community’s effort by donating four light towers and one generator. “Given that Relay for Life raises funds to fight and bring awareness to cancer, we thought it was important that they had the tools to power their event with the cleanest, healthiest energy products available,” said DC Solar’s Paulette Carpoff.
Jessica Porter from Relay of Life of Oakley adds, “The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified outdoor air pollution as a cancer-causing agent (carcinogen). In its evaluation, the IARC concluded that outdoor air pollution causes lung cancer and is also linked to an increased risk for bladder cancer.” (source: cancer.org) In an effort to do our part, the Relay For Life of Oakley is using solar powered generators and light towers instead of similar products that are gas or diesel fueled.”
