California State University, Northridge Partners With DC Solar Freedom

Mobile solar products to set a new standard for clean energy usage at CSUN

California State University, Northridge has entered into an agreement with DC Solar Freedom to provide solar energy products at its Northridge campus, at no cost to the University. The first-of-its-kind initiative by DC Solar Freedom is aimed at institutions of higher education that seek to encourage the use of clean energy, and to educate and empower their communities to discover new and innovative uses for solar.

CSUN, the first Los Angeles-area university to partner with DC Solar, will receive 42 mobile solar products for use in and around campus, including:

  • EV charging stations that will allow off-grid car charging
  • Light towers to enhance campus safety and security
  • Power Stations: outdoor work spaces that come fully equipped to charge electronic devices
  • Generators for multiple off-grid applications on and around campus

DC Solar Freedom is able to offer these units at no cost to campuses. Funding for this program is provided through a third-party Power Purchase Agreement, allowing the third-party to utilize vacant space on the unit for additional brand recognition.

DC Solar Freedom’s CEO, Jeff Carpoff: “Colleges and universities are home to some of the foremost thought-leaders on sustainability, yet when it comes to accessing renewable energy for their own use, they are often caught between capital costs and trying to reduce their carbon footprint. DC Solar Freedom offers a solution by placing renewable products on campus at no cost, thereby allowing these communities to integrate clean energy into their daily lives. We are proud to help deliver the tools California State University, Northridge needs to achieve its sustainability goals.”

“CSUN’s partnership with DC Solar will prove to be extremely helpful for the campus not only from an education standpoint for students to realize how solar is being used and the potential applications for it in the future, but they also provide a great source of power in the event the campus experiences a disaster, ultimately building on our resiliency,” said CSUN’s Sustainability Program Manager Austin Eriksson.

CSUN’s partnership with DC Solar Freedom represents the commitment we make to our students and the community – a commitment to fostering sustainability and a clean energy future that will allow them to thrive.

DC Solar Joins Forces with Bike Solar Oakland to Bring Electric Transportation to Jack London Square

Bike Solar Oakland, a community partnership that aims to bring sustainable urban transportation via solar powered electric bicycles and scooters to Oakland, CA, today announced the launch of a pilot program that brings eight solar powered e-bikes to Jack London Square. The e-bikes, provided by Fremont-based electric bicycle and scooter company, Mahindra GenZe, are housed in a custom-built solar powered charging station provided by Concord-based DC Solar. Other Bike Solar Oakland partners include the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF), Oakland-based solar service company, Sungevity, and IRFTS Shadow Solar.

The pilot will allow Jack London Square’s commercial residents daily use of the e-bikes to explore, experience and appreciate Oakland in a whole new way, whether they are riding to meetings, running errands or simply enjoying the city. All e-bike batteries will be connected to a mobile solar charging station and powered by the Oakland sun.

Bike Solar Oakland serves as an important blueprint for the future of transportation in cities dedicated to reducing over-reliance on automobiles. Solar powered electric bicycles are an important addition to existing sustainable transit models, providing urban dwellers an alternative, efficient mode of transportation.

“Oakland is the ideal place to launch a pilot program that brings solar energy to the transportation sector in a way that’s never been done before,” said Annie Sartor of Bike Solar Oakland. “We look forward to this pilot project growing in scope and scale, to ultimately serve the transportation needs of communities across Oakland and beyond.”

“Bike Solar Oakland demonstrates that solar energy can impact the transportation sector in many ways, providing clean, accessible, and economical mobility options for urban communities,” Danny Kennedy, CalCEF’s Managing Director and Sungevity’s co-founder.”

“We applaud the City of Oakland’s longstanding commitment to clean energy and sustainability, and we were proud to design and build an off-grid solar product to power e-bikes for Bike Solar Oakland,” said DC Solar CEO, Jeff Carpoff.

A Night in the Vineyard with Melissa Etheridge

It’s been a busy (and hot!) summer at DC Solar, and there’s nothing like a relaxing evening in the vineyard to cool things down. Naturally, then, we’re looking forward to this weekend when we will be on hand in St. Helena for the highly anticipated Melissa Etheridge concert, just one of the Robert Mondavi concerts we’re sponsoring this year. In addition to our sponsorship, we’re proud to offer car charging with our mobile EV charging stations, and safety lighting with our mobile light towers. As always, our goal is to provide clean, renewable solar products that not only offer convenience and cost-savings, but also enhance the audience experience.

For DC Solar’s Paulette Carpoff, insuring that clients have the products they need to pull of a seamless event is critical: “The Mondavi Concert Series is unique because, frankly, there’s no other place in the world like the Mondavi Vineyard. It is simply stunning, so insuring that the tranquility you experience goes uninterrupted — either before, during or after — is of paramount importance to us. It is why our clean, silent operating products are so perfect in this setting.”

We also take pride in the fact that DC Solar helps companies such as Mondavi achieve their sustainability goals. Kathy Magner, Hospitality Director for Robert Mondavi Winery, acknowledged DC Solar’s contribution this way: “Working with DC Solar has been a great enhancement to our summer concert series. They have provided an electric car charging station as well as two light towers for lighting the parking area for our guests, all powered by solar.  The Robert Mondavi Winery recently became green certified, and working with DC Solar enhances our mission with the use of solar power.”

So, if you’re in the area on Saturday night and you want to take in one of the best concerts of the season while soaking in one of most magical venues anywhere, buy your tickets here while they last: http://www.robertmondaviwinery.com/Visit-Us/Concerts

And… if you’re thinking about driving up in the electric car, we’ve got a charge waiting for you.
